The reports provide information on human resources in science and technology and all persons educated to tertiary level.
Note! The reports are subject to data protection measures. Numbers of 1-4 persons are shown as "1-4" and larger numbers are rounded to the nearest multiple of three. Percentages are calculated using the protected numbers.
Human resources in science and technology (HRST) refers to persons who either have completed tertiary level education or work in expert occupations (irrespective of their education); see figure. This definition follows the guidelines published by OECD and the EU; link. These reports provide HRST data by the industry of employment and the employer sector.
The industrial classification used in these reports is adapted from the Statistics Finland industrial classification. By default, the reports limit the selection to employed persons as they can be combined with data on the industries.

The employer sector applicable to these reports has been adapted from the employer sector classification used by Statistics Finland; for example, universities and research institutions have been classified as individual sectors. Population with higher education refers to persons who have completed a minimum of post-secondary level of education and live in Finland. In these reports, the data have been classified according to their country of birth and main type of activity.
The country of birth has been taken from the population register.
