The
teacher qualification reports indicate study units that provide teacher
qualifications completed in higher education institutions. Data are
available from the statistical year 2016 onwards. The information is
based on the VIRTA study information service, i.e. the data on completed
degrees recorded in higher education institutions is used as background
information. Data has been collected on both teacher studies and the
studies in the subjects to be taught. The reports also show the
qualifications that consist of studies completed in several higher
education institutions. In the report, qualification means that a
certain person has completed such study units in higher education
institutions that produce the qualification specified in legislation.
The final qualification is always verified by the education operator.
The
reports define the qualifications by statistical year. Only one
qualification or combination of qualifications per statistical year is
entered for the person. For this reason, a priority order has been
defined for the qualifications, which can be found in the link below (in
Finnish). The statistical year of the qualification is determined by
the year in which all qualification requirements have been met. https://wiki.eduuni.fi/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=343562891
Qualifications are grouped on the page according to the type of education qualification they provide.
Teacher qualifications in early childhood education and care and other qualifications in early childhood education and care
Includes
teacher qualifications in early childhood education and care completed
at universities and universities of applied sciences as well as other
qualifications in early childhood education and care.
Teacher qualifications
Qualifications for vocational teacher education
Includes
vocational teacher education completed in vocational teacher education
institutions (including vocational special needs teacher education and
vocational guidance counsellor education) and Swedish-language
vocational teacher studies completed in Åbo Akademi University.
Teacher qualifications
Teacher qualifications in basic education and general upper secondary school
Includes
basic education and general upper secondary school teacher
qualifications completed at universities. Two common combinations of
different qualifications (early childhood education teacher
qualification + class teacher qualification and subject teacher in basic
education and upper secondary school + class teacher) have been
separately calculated for the report.
Teacher qualifications
Teacher qualifications for special needs teachers
Includes
the qualifications of a special needs teacher, a special needs class
teacher and a special needs teacher in early childhood education and
care. In addition, the report has its own indicator of the total
qualifications of special needs teachers completed annually. The
qualifications of a vocational special needs teacher are included in the
vocational teacher education qualification report. The annually
completed qualifications of special needs teachers have been prioritised
in accordance with the priority order of qualifications, i.e. in the
order: special needs class teachers, special needs teachers in early
childhood education and care, and special needs teachers. The
prioritisation used in the report may slightly embellish the number of
special needs class teachers and special needs teachers in early
childhood education and care.
Teacher qualifications
Other teacher qualifications
Includes
qualifications in creative fields and teacher's pedagogical studies
completed at universities, which do not include an entry on the subject
taught. Teacher qualification in creative fields refers to the
qualification of a teacher of music, theatre or dance without a
qualification to work as a teacher in comprehensive school or upper
secondary school. Studies required for the qualification can be
completed either at universities or universities of applied sciences.
Teacher qualifications
Teaching subject qualifications
Includes
the teaching subject qualifications of comprehensive school and general
upper secondary school. The subjects to be taught are based on the
subjects included in the national curricula. The statistical year of the
qualification is determined by the year in which all qualification
requirements have been met. The report contains a separate filter on the
scope of the qualification studies. The higher education institution of
the qualification shall be determined on the basis of where the most
extensive studies in the subject completed by the statistical year of
qualification were completed. The Subject qualifications report
classifies subjects to be taught into groups (e.g. "biology, geography")
and the qualification is entered if the person has a qualification for
at least one subject in the group. The report on the combinations of
subject qualifications contains individual subjects, and it is possible
to compare different completed subject qualification combinations in a
tabular format.
