Occupations and education of the population in employment

The reports on occupational structures provide information on the distribution of the employed population into occupations and industries, and levels of education. The occupational and industry data comply with the occupational and industrial Mitenna classifications. Data is available for the 2005–2016 reference period. The most detailed statistics provided by Statistics Finland's occupational classification are available from 2009, and those using the industrial classification from 2012. Reports on transfers between occupations among the employed population will be made available later.

The occupational Mitenna classification applied in these reports is based on the Statistics Finland occupational classification, revised in 2010 (Classification of Occupations 2010). Data gathered after 2010 using the occupational Mitenna classification will, therefore, not be comparable with data gathered prior to 2010.

The industrial Mitenna classification applied in these reports is based on the Statistics Finland industrial classification, revised in 2008 (Standard Industrial Classification TOL 2008) and introduced in employment statistics in 2009. Data gathered after 2009 using the industrial Mitenna classification will, therefore, not be comparable with data gathered prior to 2009.

The occupational and industrial Mitenna classifications are applied in the anticipation of educational needs. The 'Educational structure of population' report available in Vipunen uses the Statistics Finland occupational classification.

Note! The reports are subject to data protection measures. Numbers of 1-4 persons are shown as "1-4" and larger numbers are rounded to the nearest multiple of three. Percentages are calculated using the protected numbers.

Employed by occupation, industry and education

In employment statistics, occupations have been determined annually for all persons in the employed workforce since 2004, referring to their activity during the last week of the year. The occupation of employed persons is based on their main job. Occupational data is collected from a number of sources, such as employer organisations, central and local government employment relationship registers, statistics on wages and salaries, and business data. The statistics provide information on persons aged over 18.
